THE 2014-2015 SEASON IS HERE!
The 2014-2015 Bach Choir season is is eclectic and crosses boundaries- from Handel through the Holiday Happenings to Honegger.
We begin with The Occasional Oratorio of George Frederic Handel. This rarely performed piece was pulled together for the King of England in short order and features some of the best of Handel’s music. It also includes several rarely heard choruses and will be accompanied by a proper Handel orchestra. Performances are November 15 and 16 at East Liberty Presbyterian Church.
Next up we present Holiday Happenings! on December 6th and 7th at the beautiful St. Agnes Center at Carlow University. In addition to a rousing collaboration with the Boys Choir and some holiday classics, we will present Daniel Pinkham’s Christmas Cantata. This stunning work offers a contemporary and spiritual approach to traditional nativity texts.
To round off the season we offer King David of Arthur Honegger. Titled a “dramatic psalm” this retelling of le roi David consists of twenty-seven movements across three parts, and includes actors and dramatic elements interspersed with the music. Honegger’s use of several musical styles ranging from Gregorian chant to Baroque to jazz allowed him to make a serious contribution to the neoclassical era. Performances will be at St. Nicholas Cathedral, Oakland on April 25 and 26, 2015.
We hope you will plan now to be part this journey in the growing legacy of innovative Bach Choir presentations. Season subscriptions are available using this form or by calling 412-241-4044.
