About the Artistic DirectorThomas W. Douglas
Thomas W. Douglas, the Artistic Director of the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh, brings a wide range of experience to the leadership of the choir, now in its 75nd season. A vibrant and clear conductor, a intelligent and sensitive pianist, a communicative and expressive singer, Mr. Douglas possesses the qualities which is taking the choir, a combined force of amateur and professional singers, to the next level in its long history as an important artistic component in the musical life of this city. Mr. Douglas has led over 150 oratorios, operas and musical theatre productions nationally and internationally, including Webber's Phantom of the Opera in Basel, Switzerland. He has served as the guest conductor of the Dallas Symphony Chorus with Eduardo Mata and has been the Chorus Master of the Canton Symphony and the Assistant Conductor of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh. He works regularly as Musical Director at the City Theatre in Pittsburgh, Music Theater of Wichita and Opera Theatre of Pittsburgh. Mr. Douglas was proud to receive the Mary Jane Teall award for his contribution to the artistic life of Wichita, KS. Mr. Douglas has performed the stage roles of Caiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar, Amanasro in Elton John’s Aida, Balthazar in Amahl and the Night Visitors and Fats Waller in Ain't Misbehavin', both in the US and Malaysia. He has also sung with the River City Brass Band, the Pittsburgh Symphony and frequently sings Joe Negri’s Mass of Hope with the composer. Mr. Douglas is on the faculty of the School of Drama and the School of Music at Carnegie Mellon University.
