A
1928 French silent film masterpiece by director Carl Theodor Dreyer, this
cinema landmark chronicles the trial, imprisonment and execution of Joan of
Arc, and the drama of her final hours. The Bach Choir of Pittsburgh will
perform Composer Richard Einhorn’s score for chorus, orchestra and soloists
during a showing of the film at the Pittsburgh Film Festival.

The fifth of Handel’s 19 oratorios, “Israel in Egypt”
contains no fewer than 28 massive double choruses, arias and duets. As compiled
by Handel’s collaborator Charles Jennens, the text is based entirely on
passages from the Hebrew Bible, particularly Exodus and Psalms. Follow the children of Israel as they cross
the Red Sea out of bondage.

holds that the ultimate cause (God) and the essential nature of things are
unknown and unknowable” (Webster). The Bach Choir presents Pittsburgh’s premier
performance of David Chesky’s sumptuous and emotionally moving score, with
string orchestra in collaboration with the CMU Wind Ensemble.
