Bernstein, Bach and The Beatles
They rocked our very existence. These distinct musical artists all lived extraordinary lives and created enduring bodies of work. They were each revered as innovators and “rock stars” of their generations. This season, the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh celebrates these timeless rock stars.
BERNSTEIN: The Provocateur
Nov 10 & 11 at the Katz Performing Arts Center, JCC, Squirrel Hill
As a composer, conductor, educator and humanitarian, Leonard Bernstein shattered boundaries in his life and career. In 2018, performing arts organizations around the world are celebrating the 100th birthday of this iconic artist. From his controversial premier of Mass for the opening of the Kennedy Center to his bold statements about race in West Side Story, Bernstein has provoked us to think differently about the world. Repertoire includes: selections from Mass, West Side Story, Missa Brevis, Candide and others.

Katz Performing Arts Center is located at 5738 Darlington Road in Squirrel Hill There is plenty of on street parking and a public access parking lot which holds up to 40 cars. The venue is fully accessible.
BACH: The Innovator
FEB 9 & 10 at the St. Agnes Center at Carlow University, Oakland
Johann Sebastian Bach’s creative genius produced beautiful, highly sophisticated melodies and harmonies. He challenged himself, his performers and his audiences with compositions that were more complex and longer than the 18th century norm. Bach experimented with well-tempered tunings, dissonance and influences from abroad. His innovations were endless, as is the catalogue of music that has been collected for us to explore. Repertoire includes: Sheep May Safely Graze, Ein Feste Burg, Jesu Meine Freude, Sleepers Wake.

St. Agnes Center is located at 3235 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213 (just west of the Craft Avenue intersection) in Oakland.
Free parking is available in Lot A on the corner of Fifth and Craft Avenues, Lot D (valet parking) on the corner of Fifth and Robinson, and Lot C up the hill on Terrace Street. All parking is first-come, first-served. The main entrance is located on Fifth Avenue.
THE BEATLES: The Revolutionaries
MAY 4 & 5 at Mr. Smalls Theatre, Millvale
In the eight-year span from 1962-1970, The Beatles established rock & roll as an art form. Their innovations in the recording studio influenced generations of musicians and producers and placed them in the vanguard of popular culture. Their catalog has been re-imagined and recorded in every possible genre and style. We take this opportunity to celebrate this revolutionary body of work. Repertoire includes: The Long and Winding Road, Yesterday, Eleanor Rigby and so many more!
